IT’S OFFICIAL !!
28 – 29 November 2020 : 335 bird species — 24 hours — 50km radius
A new record for South Africa!
Super exciting to join over 350 teams competing across South Africa in the 36th Birding Big Day, an annual birding competition to create awareness, collect data and raise funds for bird conservation. Seemed not that long ago to break 300 in a day in a 50km-radius circle seemed impossible…
Huge thanks to my team mates for an insane (and fun!) 24 hours of non-stop focus: Brad Arthur, Marc Cronje and especially planner-in-chief Michael Mills whose amazing preparation was integral to the success on the day!
Planning was down to the minute, a rollercoaster of curveballs and catch-ups, and we really owe all those who helped a huge thank you — we really could not have done it without your support — especially the professional driving from Andrew Wagner and Dave Snow. It was one of those days when an unexpected Short-tailed Pipit even upstaged a close male Leopard!
